A Learning Experience – by Rhinox Athlete Ross Gladwin

A Learning Experience – by Rhinox Athlete Ross Gladwin

After my most successful year in my sport where I won 2 British titles, the International Cup, fought in the most prestigious event in the UK winning both bouts and culminating in 2 silver medals at the World Championships, I embarked on what would be a tough but challenging 2012.

I am lucky enough to have the backing of my two brilliant sponsors who make my kickboxing career possible.  Firstly Mark Chapman at Rhinox Nutrition who has supported me over the past 2 years and helps wherever he can.  Secondly my travel sponsor Keith Wickham at Gate7 who has supported me since achieving a silver medal at the World Championships by funding all of my trips.  Without these two men the success I have had this year would not have been possible.

At the turn of the year I sat with my father and worked out which tournaments were the best to compete in in Europe and North America and made sure I could train towards all of them.  Firstly I fought at the Irish Open (Europe’s most prestigious tournament) in March.  It was a shock to my system experiencing the quality of the opposition and the magnitude of the tournament, but I came away satisfied winning my first bout against a German then losing to an Italian in the quarter finals.

The second tournament in my schedule was the Dutch Open.  I fought fantastically well here; as well as I did at the World Championships but in my opinion I lost out very unfairly to a German in the final.

Between the Dutch tournament and my next scheduled abroad trip (The Wako World Cup in Rimini, Italy) I fought in the ISKA English Championships and won my division.  The World Cup for me was the finest tournament I have ever been to with the highest standard of kickboxing I have ever seen.  This was a good tournament for me; I fought in two divisions: -89kg and -94kg.  I took a bronze medal in both of my categories but a fight with a HUGE Italian in the -94kg category was one of my best career victories because of how much stronger he was. I fought well keeping him at range nullifying his power.

July was the biggest tournament in Kickboxing and what is classed as the most prestigious tournament in the World; The US Open.  Considering it was my first attempt at this massive event which consequently has 52 fighting areas, I came away satisfied.  I decided to fight in the heavyweight section at this tournament and won my opening bout with a fighter from Trinidad, I then lost out to a big, long haired Texan in the next bout in a fairly contentious decision.

After the US Open I decided to take a month or so off but fought in a national tournament in Worcester late in August winning my -90kg division just to keep me sharp.  The final event of the year would be the Italian Open in Milan.  For me this was my worst performance of the year as I lost out in the final to an Italian who I really should have beaten.  It’s all a learning curve though and I learned from this and it will make me a better fighter.

2013 brings new challenges and a heavier schedule where I am hoping to visit the following tournaments:
Jan – Wako European Cup, Marena Di Piave
Feb – WKC English nationals, Manchester
Mar – Irish Open – Dublin
Apr – Austrian Classic, Tirol
June – Wako World Cup, Rimini
Jul – Us Open (World Martial Arts Championships), Florida
Oct – Wako Italian Open, Milan
2013 will also bring my 28th birthday and probably the start of my peak athletic period for this sport; so it’s up to me to make sure I capitalise on this and fulfil what goals I have set for myself.  Again massive thanks to Mark and Keith for their support because without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.

The world has gone pre workout crazy

The workout world has gone pre-workout crazy. Everybody seems to be spending more money on pre-workout supplements, and less on the actual building blocks of muscle itself. If people are so intent on taking something for training, it would be much more logical to take in BCAA's, amino acids! Enthusiasm is wonderful and it's good to see people invest their money in their hobby with a vision in their minds of a great physique which they are striving so hard to achieve. However poor investment choices are where some people fall down. Taking BCAA'S while training will gain you more muscle mass than taking a pre-workout only, providing that enough protein is also consumed and your body's calorific needs are met on a daily basis. I know so many people who use pre-workouts in a plan to get HUGE!! But they overlook the lack of protein that they consume most other days of the year! Some rarely get over 100g protein a day but are still choosing to use test boosters and/or pre-workouts supplements. This is just Crazy!! However it's not all their fault, a lot of the time it is just down to investment in the wrong areas - and misinformation...Listening to 'The guys at the gym!'....... "the guys at the gym said this", "The guys at the gym do that....".

If your budget for nutrition only allows for the cost of a tub of pre-workout (which contains no amino acids [protein] ) I strongly recommend to put the pre-workout supplement down and choose a BCAA's intra-workout supplement instead. If you cannot afford a BCAA intra-workout then save your money for some liver, mince beef and eggs, then go home and eat those. Train with self animation and enthusiasm. You don't need a pre-workout to 'make' you work your ass off.

On the other hand, if you are fortunate enough to be able to utilise every nutritional aid on offer, get some protein, get your favorite pre-workout and sip a BCAA drink whilst you train. This will ensure you develop at the fastest rate possible.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not being negative towards pre-workouts, I love them and get a more intense, focused workout whilst using them! My message here is - ensure you have the foundations right before trying to build. Mainly ensure you are having sufficient protein on a daily basis, drip feed your body protein throughout your workout (as this is when it needs it most!), ensure your body is hydrated throughout the day, THEN look at how to build on these foundations such as pre-workouts for intensity, focus and drive.

Team Rhinox Member Review: Jack3d

Team Rhinox member Ross Gladwin tells us his thoughts on USP Lab's hit Pre-Workout Jack3d:

Just a quick email regarding the new supplement I've started to use this week courtesy of my sponsor Rhinox. Throughout the years of training I've tried numerous pre workout drinks but the majority fail to really live up to the over the top claims on the tin.

This week I began using Jack3d and I must say it does exactly what is says:
I felt full of energy and felt I could push harder than before. Its now a stable part of my training and I'm recommending it to fellow trainers, athletes and clients I train in the gym!

Team Rhinox Member Review: Total Annihilation

Team Rhinox Member Colin Robertson talks to us about his choice of PRE-Workout:

The next supplement I use is a PRE-workout drink called UBN Total Annihilation. This is one of the best and the strongest PRE-workout drinks I have used.  I take 2 scoops with 300ml water upon waking and 10 mins before training. The pumps I can get from this is shocking, and stays with me most of the day after the workout. It's really gives me a hard buzz of seemingly limitless energy, and recovery between sets is enhanced substantially. I feel much stronger when using TA and so far I have beaten and keep beating my personal bests. I feel I can crank out a few more reps too and lactic acid build up and onset is lessened. All-in-all a top quality product.

Save YOUR rights to purchase and use supplements !

PLEASE READ AND TAKE ACTION!

Several retailers have recently being served notice by the MHRA to cease the sale, and marketing of supplements which they deem to be non-compliant with law due to the fact they are unlicensed medicines.
In their notes they stipulate the following as the definition of a medicinal product.
“Any substance or combination of substances presented as having properties for treating or preventing disease in human beings;
Any substance or combination of substances which may be used in or administered to human beings either with a view to restoring, correcting or modifying physiological functions by exerting a pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action, or to making a medical diagnosis.”
Read that second paragraph carefully and you can see that anything which potentially builds muscle or burns fat could one day be classed as a medicine. Already, a great number of highly effective supplements with a proven track record of results and safety are deemed to be medicinal products and effectively illegal.
They specifically state that:
“Products for persons wishing to lose weight (“slimming/dieting products”) would fall within the definition of a medicinal product if: (a) they make medicinal claims; (b) if they modify physiological functions by acting pharmacologically, immunologically or metabolically”
In other words if they work as they are supposed to, fat burners are classed as medicinal products.

Herbal Medicines

All products of herbal origins are on the radar. Any new herbal products introduced in the last 30 years are specifically exempt from the possibility of obtaining a license to be sold. There is the potential for the sale of some traditional herbal products providing a license is obtained for their sale but the costs of these and the dosages required for efficacy do not correspond to reality. A cost of £50,000 per license application, with most products being rejected if they are deemed to modify physiological function, or, if they are not at least 30 years old in their usage.

Incoherence in the legislation

We are waiting to establish from the MHRA why particular nutrients which function very similarly such as caffeine and synephrine, both of which originate from food, are treated differently with the latter banned and the former permitted.
Similarly, we are awaiting an answer on a number of other nutrients which we believe are to be found in the food supply and as such would not ordinarily come under the auspices of the MHRA, but instead, would be a matter for the Food Standards Agency or Trading Standards.

What we need to do

The following nutrients have all already been deemed illegal to sell. We have been served notice that failure to remove all products containing these will result in the closure of our website. We are undertaking a systematic inspection of each and every product in our warehouse and as and when we find items which are deemed non-compliant we will be forced to remove them from sale. This will have a catastrophic effect on our business with the spectre of redudancies, suppliers and advertisers losing our business, and customers losing the freedom to buy. In the current economic climate it seems insane they would attack an industry paying so much in tax but they are adopting a zero tolerance approach as their mantra both now and going forward.

Yohimbe

Yohimbine Hcl (most US fat burners)

Sida Cordifolia Milk Thistle Coleus Forskolii/ Forskolin (Lean Xtreme)

Carulluma Evodia (Evodiamine) (mainly us fat burners)

Gugglesterones

Tribulus

Uva

Ursi

Valerian

Hoodia

White Willow

Rauwolfia/Rauwolscine (Alphaburn, Alpha-T2).

1,3 Dimethylamylamine (Jack3d, Hemo Rage Black, Dexaprine)

Synephrine

Citrus Aurantium (Hyper FX, Maximize v2)

Salix Alba

GABA (HGH Pro)

Melatonin (most sleep aids)

DHEA and variations (several test boosters/PH’s)

Tongkat Ali

Horny Goat Weed

Epimedium or Icariin (Activate Xtreme, Hemavol)

Eurycoma Longifolia boswellia (X-Factor Advanced)

Carbolin

Gymnema Sylvestre

Clary Sage

Commiphora Mukul

Not just these but all variations of these ingredients have been made illegal to sell for all retailers. In addition, variations of these ingredients, many of which go under different nomenclature are all banned.
To use one example the ingredient cited above as 1,3 Dimethylamylamine, a popular Preworkout supplement ingredient with a body of evidence supporting its effects (see the website dmaaresearch.com for more info) was also cited as methylhexaneamine, Geranamine, and DMAA.
Of greater concern, re-read the paragraph posted earlier:
“Any substance or combination of substances which may be used in or administered to human beings either with a view to restoring, correcting or modifying physiological functions by exerting a pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action”
This paragraph should answer any and all questions regarding whether ingredient x,y, or z will eventually be targeted by the MHRA.

What can we do?

The supplement industry is not always known for coming together and presenting a unified front to combat regulation but make no mistake, this is an existential threat to the future of the United Kingdom’s fast developing sports nutrition industry, the jobs and money it creates for the economy, and the rights of citizens to self determination on how they live their lives. From a democratic standpoint, we believe the principle of democracy by consent is under attack here as this legislation has been trampled through with no consideration to the wishes of the majority of sports supplements consumers opposed to this, and yet who are expected to pay for the privilege of losing their rights, in the form of the taxation which funds the MHRA.
We have been told by no less than the head of the MHRA’s division responsible for borderline medicines, that the action is part of a drive against the industry. We have confirmed with some other retailers who have had products seized or been served warning letters and intelligence suggests this action will be stepped up now.
We will be trying to get a co-ordinated response from others in our industry to combat this action. Either we stand together and make a stand now or we will be picked off one by one until there is no-one left. Only a fool would dig their heads in the sand but that is already the reaction of some in the industry based on initial conversations who are hoping the spotlight will not burn so brightly on their activities. As a student of history, I believe the following quote from a German priest about the Nazis is appropriate.
“First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.”
We firmly believe that it is critical that the industry pulls together to form an alliance to present our counter-arguments to the authorities. We need to provide evidence relating to the safety of our products when used as prescribed, and to argue that in a free society, it is an infringement of personal liberty as well as an abuse of power by unelected public servants that we are not allowed to make personal choices on how we look after our health.

How to help
We plan to raise an alliance of business interests and consumers to tackle this unfair, and incoherent legislation. As an initial plan of action we urge all people to sign the petition below:

Central Government

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/13372

We have a minimum aim of 10,000 signatures to reach. Ask whoever you buy supplements from to post this daily on their status update and to push via all available marketing channels. Sign it yourselves and ask all friends and family to do so likewise. This is one easy way we can make our voice heard.

Contact Your MP
The link to the page below provides a sample letter or email for you to send to your local mp. This was provided to us by the founder at Bodybuilding Warehouse and we thank him for his efforts to draw this to the attention of the wider public. Included below is the link to your local MP. The more of us who contact these the more effect it will have and when we serve a massive petition to them later in the year hopefully they will take notice.

Contact the MHRA
In case anyone wishes to seek an independent view on the ingredients listed in this blog post, the officers at the MHRA responsible for classifying what is and is not a medicine are listed below. They will be able to confirm to any retailer or customer the accuracy of the information presented by us. As a personal request, we ask people to speak to the MHRA in a courteous manner as anything else will undermine our cause. Ranting against the injustice is absolutely NOT the way to proceed.

MHRA on Twitter – http://twitter.com/MHRAgovukpress
MHRA Email Address – http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Contactus/index.htm

Specifically, it is the borderline medicines department who are responsible for the supplements industry and determinining what is and is not a medicinal product
We will reiterate one last time that this action is one which targets the whole industry and the consumers who use these products, and only by combining forces can we hope to have any chance of overturning this regulation. We will work with manufacturers globally to have UK compliant products released but the action about to be launched against us in the UK has already occurred across several European countries so we absolutely must stand together in this or else divided we surely will fall.

Team Rhinox Member Review: Scivation Xtend

Colin Robertson talks to us about Scivation's Xtend
I'm currently getting ready for Mr Northumberland on the 9th June this year. I'm using a range of supplements to complement my diet.  I will list the products I'm using and why.

Xtend - Branch chain amino acids.
Xtend has really made a difference to my condition and muscularity. I am fuller all the time and feel stronger in the gym. I seem to maintain peak strength for longer for more sets. Recovery time between sets can be reduced too for a more intensive workout. While I'm dieting or gaining mass it is important to have peak levels of amino acids as often as possible.

I use a lot of Xtend. I used 4 scoops with water before cardio or weight training, another 2 with water during cardio or weight training, followed by 4 more scoops after which i sip over the space of an hour.
I take 4 scoops before bed too. I started using this before I started my diet and noticed Another good way to use it while dieting is to mix 8 scoops with your daily water intake and sip through the day.

Product Focus & FAQ: Driven Sports - Activate Xtreme

The supplment market is flooded with testosterone "boosters" and products claiming to boost your size and strength but very few can back their claims up with as much confidence as Driven Sports do with their product "Activate Xtreme". Below is the full product details from our site and a FAQ done by the guys over at Driven Sports.

Activate Xtreme
120 Caps

  •     Increasing SIZE and STRENGTH: More testosterone, more strength, better performance!

Do You Want to Bust Through Plateaus, Set New Personal Records, & Maximize Your Muscle Mass?

Of course you do. And for years supplement companies have been churning out nonsense products promising these benefits through supposed "testosterone boosters." Based on minimal evidence and loose theories these products were mostly garbage and more money was spent on fancy bottles and advertising than on research and development!

Using Compounds With NO SCIENTIFIC BACKING Just Doesn't Cut It.

Activate Xtremestands apart from its competitors that have ceaselessly attempted to copy the design, but have never quite matched it let alone bested it. The researchers at DS spent many months researching and developing the formula that would go on to become the INDUSTRY STANDARD for testosterone enhancement.
The SCIENCE Behind Activate Xtreme REVEALED

Activate Xtremeis designed around Divanil, a compound tried, tested and scientifically proven to enhance free testosterone by binding to sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG). SHBG is the core controller of your FREE TESTOSTERONE. When SHBG binds testosterone it can no longer promote muscle mass. In other words, SHBG TURNS TESTOSTERONE OFF!

Divanilprevents this effect from occurring, ensuring that YOUR testosterone stays SWITCHED ON.
But Activate Xtreme Does Not Only Cater for Free Testosterone.

Mucuna pruriens is an adaptogenic herb predominantly found in hot climates like India and Africa. In the body, mucuna pruriens increases levels of LH (Luteinizing hormone) leading to significant increases in testosterone production and release.

Mucuna pruriens has also been shown to significantly elevate levels of growth hormone (GH) in the body by over 1250%! GH is involved heavily in sex hormone synthesis, in particular by regulating something called Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (stAR). Why is this important? Because this is the rate-limiting step in testosterone synthesis. So not only does mucuna pruriens boost testosterone via LH stimulation, it enhances the machinery required to synthesize it through GH augmentation. But that's not all!

In men prolactin is released after orgasm, resulting in loss of erection and a short-term reduction of sexual appetite. This is called the refractory period and can last anywhere from seconds in young men, to thirty or more minutes in older men. Known for centuries as an aphrodisiac and sexual tonic due to its effect of reducing prolactin, mucuna pruriens can also enhance your sexual experience!

The main constituent in mucuna pruriens responsible for these effects is L-Dopa. L-Dopa is a direct precursor for dopamine, which regulates the sex hormones control center in the brain. It has been shown that other alkaloids found in mucuna pruriens make the L-Dopa content more orally bioavailable to the body than taking the synthetic version of L-Dopa alone. This is why Activate Xtremecontains both a high-potency 95% extract of L-Dopa along with a lower 20% mucuna pruriens extract!

More Size, More Strength, Better Sex How Do You Top That?

Activate Xtremealso contains Bryonia laciniosa seeds, which is something that has never before been seen in the supplement industry! Bryonia laciniosa is an herb found predominantly in India that is popular in Ayurvedic medicine. Used for treating inflammation, the seeds are also reported to have sexual tonic effects. This has been proven in mammals with an INCREASE in LH, resulting in an increase in testosterone of 1400%! In addition, bryonia laciniosa seeds also increased the fructose content of seminal vesicles by almost 50%. Seminal vesicle fructose content is regulated by androgens and is thus directly correlated with testosterone levels. This explains why bryonia laciniosa has been popular throughout history as for sexual invigoration.

But wait, There's More!

Activate Xtremedoes not stop at significant increases in total and free testosterone - estrogen must also be considered. While estrogen has several benefits for muscle growth, a balance needs to be found. This balance is provided by pZole, the REVOLUTIONARY natural aromatase inhibitor (AI) we introduced to the industry with Triazole!

Aromatase is the enzyme that converts androgens like testosterone into estrogens. This is the main way that males generate estrogen. Interrupting this process via aromatase inhibition leads to lower estrogen creation and higher testosterone output. If you are looking for complete estrogen control then Triazole should be your product of choice, however pZoleis included in Activate Xtremeto provide estrogen support for this excellent natural testosterone enhancer.
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) For Total Body Recomposition
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) For Total Body Recomposition

Cholecalciferol is also known as vitamin D3, a hormone precursor for the active form of D3 in the body, called calcitriol. While some D3 can be obtained from dietary intake, the majority of D3 is derived from the sun. Unfortunately, most people do not get enough D3 because they do not eat a balanced diet, nor do they get outside as much as they should. Combine this with the darker winter months that most people endure, D3 deficiency has been identified as a legitimate concern. This is because D3 plays a huge role in many biological processes. You know how you just feel better during summer and your mood is improved overall? That's thanks to D3.

As D3 is also connected with improving insulin sensitivity, supporting healthy blood pressure, promoting healthy bone metabolism, and enhancing the immune response there are many excellent reasons to include D3 in Activate Xtreme. That said, there are several fitness specific benefits to be derived from it as well.
D3 Exerts a POSITIVE Effect on Androgens & Estrogens
D3 Exerts a POSITIVE Effect on Androgens & Estrogens

D3 levels have been definitively correlated with androgen levels in men. Recent research has shown that men with higher D3 levels have MORE circulating testosterone and LESS SHBG. With people receiving less sunshine during winter months, especially considering that these are typically "bulking season", this is NOT a situation you want for your internal environment.

D3 reduces aromatase via two distinct pathways - first by suppressing how much of it is produced by the body, and secondly by suppressing a pro-inflammatory pathway which reduces levels of prostaglandins including prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) - a major stimulator of aromatase generation.
D3 & IGF-1 For IMPROVED Muscular Fortification
D3 & IGF-1 For IMPROVED Muscular Fortification

D3 also has more direct effects on muscle growth via correlation with IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1) levels. So called because of its structural similarity to insulin, IGF-1 is the means by which GH mediates its anabolic effects in the body. A deficiency in D3 has been found to be directly linked to low levels of IGF-1. There also exists a more direct way in which D3 effects muscle cells, through something called the Vitamin D Receptor (VDR). Calcitriol binds to this receptor, activating second messenger systems that are crucial for muscle repair and development, so much so that mice bred without the VDR have serious growth issues, muscle impairment and poor physical performance. Additionally, studies looking into D3 deficiency in HUMANS have found cases of myopathy (muscle weakness) and balance impairment may be reversed via daily supplemental D3, leading to an increase in performance and endurance.
D3 means LESS FAT
D3 means LESS FAT

D3 also plays a role in total body composition and has a direct correlation with body fat levels. By increasing calcium uptake in cells, calcitriol has been associated with a reduction of fat cell content. While the mechanisms are multiple, a significant effect of this calcium influx is through the enzyme (11beta-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase-1) that converts the inactive cortisone to active Cortisol. In fat cells, 11b-HSD1 INCREASES fat cell content. By regulating this enzyme, the increased calcium uptake contributes to the preferential loss of fat in the cells that predominantly express 11b-HSD1 such as abdominal fat. This is also one of the reasons that makes Lean Xtreme such a fantastic fat loss tool!

In fact, the effect of adequate D3 intake is so pronounced that in humans it MAKES DIETING EASIER, with subjects responding better to lower calorie intakes during dieting, leading to more fat loss than those without sufficient D3! So whether you're aiming for a lean bulk, or dieting down, Activate Xtremeis the PERFECT choice!
But what about performance?
But what about performance?

Glad you asked. In addition to the adaptogenic effects of mucuna pruriens, Activate Xtremecontains Lepidium meyenii, which is better known as maca. Also considered an adaptogen, maca is believed to help strengthen the immune system, exert a neuroprotective effect, and also fortify your libido. In both humans and mammals, maca has been shown to improve sperm quality, sexual desire and mating performance. Some more recent research has shown that maca's adaptogenic effects extend further than sexual health, IMPROVING EXERCISE PARAMETERS during activity. This makes maca great for both performance in the gym and performance between the sheets!

And just like the extract we include in Triazole, Activate Xtremeutilizes a 20:1 extract of maca. This is a HIGHLY concentrated form of maca that we're confident even the most experienced users of maca will not have used before. The superior refinement of the 20:1 extract makes it the highest quality material available.

FAQ

Q. In a nutshell, what is Activate Xtreme?

A. Activate Xtreme? represents not simply a progression but a complete evolution from its predecessor, Activate?. Still harnessing the awesome power of Divanil, Activate Xtreme goes significantly further by providing total testosterone enhancement, adaptogenic support and estrogenic control.

Q. What is so good about Divanil?

A. Divanil is a high-potency extract of stinging nettle root. Most of your circulating testosterone is bound or inactive. A plasma glycoprotein called Sex-Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) binds up most of your testosterone so that it cannot exert any anabolic effect. Divanil knocks out SHBG allowing your own testosterone to be free. This is significant because SHBG-bound testosterone cannot exert its muscle-building effects.

Q. Can't we just get this effect cheap from generic stinging nettle root extract products?

A. As much as you would like that, no. While generic stinging nettle products contain all lignans found in the root, Divanil is standardized to 95% 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran. It is this lignan that shows the highest affinity for sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and what was responsible for the obvious beneficial effects of the original ActivaTe. Generic products also tend to have the typical 10% standardization, so to get one month's worth of the product at the dosing equivalent to the recommended dosing of Divanil would require multiple bottles and likely not have the same effect in the event of other lignans in the root antagonizing the effect of Divanil.

Q. ActivaTe Xtreme contains something called icariin. I have never heard of this before. What is the scoop?

A. Icariin is a flavonol found in epimedium extracts, more familiarly known by the name horny goat weed. It is included in the product formula because of its effects on mimicking testosterone and increasing levels of circulating testosterone, meaning it works synergistically with Divanil?. In addition, it should also assist in increasing libido due to its effects on raising nitric oxide and inhibiting an enzyme known as Phosphodiesterase type 5 or PDE-5.

Q. So will this help strengthen erections?

A. Very possible, yes. It has been shown to do so in the research behind it.

Q. So how does basella alba fit into the product design?

A. Thought you would never ask. In a first for the industry, Designer Supplements introduces you to a compound from Ceylon Spinach. Basella alba has been shown to stimulate Leydig cells directly, leading to increases in testosterone output. In combination with the synergy of icariin and Divanil, you have a perfect triple-threat approach.

Q. How does rhodiola rosea improve this?

A. Rhodiola rosea is a marvelous compound known as an adaptogen. Adaptogens have the ability to balance the endocrine and immune systems, helping the body maintain homeostasis, while amazingly achieving this effect without negative effect on other biological systems. Rhodiola rosea was included in ActivaTe Xtreme for its performance-enhancing properties regarding ATP synthesis. This makes it excellent for promoting endurance and also excellent for recovery between bouts of exercise.

Q. And I3C

A. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is a naturally occurring phytochemical found in vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage. While primarily a powerful antioxidant, I3C also supports the liver?s typical processes such as toxin removal. The predominant interest in I3C for ActivaTe Xtreme?, however, is its effect of modulating estrogen metabolism. Its effects include reducing ?bad? estrogen metabolites, and promoting activity of the good metabolites. This helps take care of any unwanted side effects from the potent combination of Divanil, icariin and basella alba.

Q. Excellent. So what are the dosing recommendations?

A. Two caps per serving, 2-3 times per day.

Q. Spaced out, or can I dose all at once for practicality?

A. Space them out. The effect of Divanil is much better this way.

Q. How long does a bottle last?

A. One month at recommended dosing.

Q. Can I double dose the product?

A. We recommend that you do not, but understand if the heavier of you prefer to increase the dosage.

Q. How long can I use it for?

A. We recommend four week cycles.

Q. Will ActivaTe Xtreme lose effectiveness over time?

A. There is nothing to suggest this to be the case. That said, we recommend cycle lengths of four weeks. Eight maximum for those who wish to experiment.

Q. So there is potential for ActivaTe Xtreme to agitate those with existing gyno problems?

A. The potential is always there with a product that will increase total and free testosterone as efficiently as ActivaTe Xtreme, especially for users with existing conditions. However, we feel that the chances of aggravation are very, very slim. And the chances of actual gynecomastia development from use of the product to be near-impossible.

Q. Does ActivaTe Xtreme cause HPTA shutdown?

A. No, it is non-hormonal and should not negatively impact HPTA in anyway. ActivaTe Xtreme may even improve HPTA function when used post cycle.

Q. Does it matter if taken with or without food?

A. No.

Q. Does ActivaTe Xtreme help you gain strength?

A. Provided your diet and training are on point.

Q. Do you think ActivaTe Xtreme would be strong enough to retain muscle while cutting?

A. Providing your diet is solid and your training not excessive, certainly.

Q. Do I need to taper ActivaTe Xtreme? down at the end of the cycle?

A. It is not necessary, no, the body seems to re-establishes homeostasis pretty quickly after ceasing use of ActivaTe Xtreme. If it makes you feel better, however, you can taper down.

Q. Since SHBG governs estrogens also, does that mean ActivaTe will free up estrogen also? I do not want to turn into a girl.

A. Yes, this is absolutely possible, although SHBG has a low affinity for estrogens than androgens like testosterone, so not much will be activated in that regard.

Q. What about aromatization?

A. Some of the testosterone activated by the product will undoubtedly be converted into estradiol (a type of estrogen). The effect will not be enough to give you a big butt or make you cry at Titanic, but it should be enough to confer the multitude of benefits associated with estrogens in non-excessive amounts.

Q. Estrogen has benefits?

A. Yep. Do not be fooled, it is a double-edge sword in some scenarios, gynecomastia being the worst of men, but in smaller concentrations it will boost cholesterol profiles, increase GH to IGF-1 conversion in the liver, promote glycogen synthesis and help boost water retention in the muscle, giving a muscle expanding effect allowing you to lift more weight. Not only this, but it helps lubricate joints to help you lift the extra poundage.

There are bad metabolites of estrogen, but the inclusion of I3C (see above) will help to minimize this issue.

Q. Will ActivaTe Xtreme give me acne?

A. Again, with a product as effective as ActivaTe Xtreme is for boosting total and free testosterone, it certainly is possible. Some users report oilier skin and some increased acne, but nothing that makes your face look like a Goodfellas pizza. After a week or so your body should adjust to the higher amount of testosterone making acne a non-issue.

Q. I feel warm about half an hour after taking my dose of ActivaTe Xtreme. What is causing that?

A. We expect this to be an inverse benefit from the binding of SHBG by Divanil. By lowering SHBG and raising free testosterone, we theorize that thyroid output is increased, causing the perceived rise in core temperature.

Q. So is this a good thing or a bad thing?

A. It is a tremendous benefit. The active thyroid hormone, T3, regulates protein synthesis. Just enough can boost muscle tissue building rates and lead to a very nice anabolic effect. So much so, that we fully expect this effect to play a large role the overall anabolic nature of the product.

Q. I have noticed some cool vascularity using ActivaTe Xtreme. What is causing this?

A. That will most likely be the nitric oxide (NO) boosting effect of Divanil and icariin. This also plays a large role in the pumps during training reported by most.

Q. Last question, it is well documented how much Designer Supplements dislikes proprietary blends, so how come this product has a proprietary blend?

A. Excellent question. It is not that we dislike proprietary blends in general, we just despise the companies who utilize proprietary blends to significantly under dose compounds but include them on the label to beef up the product profile. It is usually quite obvious when this has been done as the product will list about 10-30 compounds in the profile, and yet the serving size is maybe one-to-three caps.

ActivaTe Xtreme contains only five compounds, all dosed adequately (and generously). We have used our right to use a proprietary blend because this product has been in the design process for almost a year and we do not wish to continue going down the road of having our products ripped-off so easily. It has happened on almost every single product we have released to date. This is our way of making life more difficult for the rip-off artists who have no ability to research or design novel products on their own.

Q. I have a medical condition. Will Activate cause problems with any medication I am taking?

A. Always consult your doctor before using any new products.
